Respected Sir/ma'am, Thanks for asking me an excellent question.
There are three main types of losses in Silicon solar cell i.e. Thermalization loss, Transmission loss and Recombination loss. Here we are trying to reduce the recombination losses with this process. The reason of recombination loss is the recombination of electron hole pairs close to the surface is and this type of loss mainly affects the high energy photons (short wavelength) because these photons absorbed in surface region which reduces the spectral response.
The photoluminescence down-shift method modifies only the solar spectrum to better match light absorption properties and it does not modify the intrinsic structure of solar cell. Therefore, an increase in the current would result in an increase in the conversion efficiency of the solar cell.
I hope, you will be satistfied with my answer. If you will have more doubts then you can ask me questions
